Sites and Buildings: Collaborate in Development of Sites and Buildings

Projects
Center for Energy Research and Education Industry Lab (CERE)
CERE worked with Liberty University and Lynchburg-based Framatome (AREVA Inc.) to create four industry labs including: Chemical/Material Lab, EMC Lab, Calibration Lab, and a Non-Destructive Testing Lab. CERE offers students from across the Commonwealth of Virginia opportunities to observe and assist with research in the fields of science and engineering. Labs are now operational and used by industry leaders, faculty, and researchers. As a result, six new jobs have been created by partner entities. A Research and Development contract, an industry partnership, and an educational partnership have all been secured.

Additive Manufacturing Partnership Lab (AMPL)
Housed at the CERE facility in Bedford County and developed by Liberty University, AMPL features advanced equipment, including two Markforged Metal X 3D Printers, one Markforged X7 3D Printer, one Geomagic Capture Scanner, and smaller 3D printers in support of the nearby XLR8 STEM Academy. The 2,400 square foot facility also includes several Additive Manufacturing systems capable of full consolidation of nylon, carbon fiber, polymeric, metallic, and ceramic material systems, as well as a prototyping laboratory which includes a host of characterization techniques. AMPL has led to the implementation of new bachelor and graduate level engineering courses as well as train-the-trainer programs for K-12 and community college partners. Three new industry and educational partnerships and four new jobs have been created.
